Dr. Sara Escobar-Wiercinski is a Spanish professor and the director of MLC Modern Languages Centre in Windsor, Ontario. She was born in Panama City, Panama, and since 1993 has been living in Windsor with her family.  She also lived and worked in Montreal, Quebec for five years (1988-1993).

Sara holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Modern Languages and Literary Criticism from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan (2014). She obtained her M.A. in Spanish Language and Culture from the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain (2001), completed her B.A. in Office Administration from the Universidad Santa María La Antigua (U.S.M.A.) in Panama (1997), and graduated from Business Administration-Marketing from St. Clair College, Windsor, Ontario (1998). She is an active researcher in Latin American literature, linguistics and second language education.

Dr. Escobar-Wiercinski has been teaching Spanish in Windsor since 1995.  She taught at St. Clair College (1995–2012)—where she also served as the coordinator of the Spanish program for more than seven years.  She later joined as a part-time Spanish Instructor at the University of Windsor (2007-   ), and as an adjunct instructor in Wayne State University (2007-  ).

Additionally, Sara ran a private Spanish business for almost ten years: Sara’s Spanish Services located primarily in her home where she provided both in-house and on-site Spanish language services to children, teenagers, and adults.  During those years she taught executives and personnel in corporations doing business in Latin America. Among those, Hiram Walker & Sons Limited- Allied Domecq and Valiant Corporation. She also delivered Spanish courses tailored for children in The Children House Montessori Schools in Windsor and in LaSalle, and The Montessori School of Windsor.

Sara left her private teaching aside when she decided to pursue doctoral studies, followed by a tragedy that tremendously impacted her and her family, the loss of her only son Luis Fernando Acosta Escobar, (1987-2007). Despite her heart-breaking loss, she continued with her doctoral studies until December 2014 when she graduated.

On August 2015, after a short social visit from her inspirational friend Mélida Renkwitz, she felt encouraged to reopen her private Spanish teaching business. A week later, after more thoughts and consideration, Sara decided not only to offer Spanish, but various other modern languages as well.  She rented a small office, and began to create a special space dedicated to language teaching for people of all ages. A place to house various languages in one space for the entire family.

On September 26, 2015 her new business, MLC Modern Languages Centre was officially opened for business. Sara began to reach out to people, and in her marketing campaign she dedicated two weeks giving free trial lessons to those interested to visit and see what MLC was all about.  Sara began by teaching Spanish lessons to children on Saturdays, several private one-on-one classes for adults and teens, small group classes, tutoring class, and on-site corporate training in Laval International.

On April 1, 2016 MLC moved to a bigger space, and she started to build up a team of experienced and dedicated instructors and collaborator, friends-colleagues.  Today, MLC Modern Languages Centre offers courses of Spanish, Italian, French, English, German, Portuguese, and Arabic.  The primordial focus and emphasis is placed on the communicative approach, knowledge of the cultural norms, and practice of the four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing of the target language. All produced with effective lesson planning, while creating a fun, exciting, and yet challenging and welcoming learning environment.

On July 2016, Dr. Escobar-Wiercinski started a summer immersion program of Spanish studies abroad in Salamanca, Spain for Spanish students, and for instructors of Spanish.

On January 2017, MLC branched-out to Leamington, ON with Italian and Spanish classes.
